The only paid, full-time jobs in SAR that I am aware of are the US Air Force para-rescuemen posted to Moody Air Force Base near Valdosta, Georgia. What they do is technically combat SAR; however, they may assist civilian officials with local SAR.  Civil Air Patrol is another agency that will assist with both downed aircraft and wilderness search and rescue. You may also look into your state emergency management positions.  There have been a handful of rescue squads that have had a paid person on their staff.  Otherwise, there are no paid, full-time jobs in SAR. Everyone that I know that is involved is either a volunteer or someone who does it as a collateral duty to their paid job in another field.
